Solar panels (also known as PV or photovoltaic cells) capture sunlight and with an inverter, convert it into electricity that we can all use.
They still work using available sunlight but expect a slightly reduced output.
It’s clean, renewable, not generated by fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) and doesn’t emit any harmful pollutants.
Solar panels don’t work at night because they need sunlight to generate electricity.
Not necessarily.
- Solar panel systems are connected to the TNB grid.
- Your home uses Solar Electricity first and exports any excess to help lower your bill (under Solar ATAP, effective Dec 2025).
- When usage exceeds generation or at night, it seamlessly draws from TNB.
- A battery is optional – it stores excess Solar Electricity for night use and can provide backup power during blackouts.
For safety reasons, your solar panel system will shut down during a blackout and resume once power is restored. You’ll only have electricity during a blackout if you opt for our energy storage and backup solution, which can help keep essential appliances running.
Solar panels are similar to other electrical appliances in your home, like refrigerators and air conditioners, in terms of safety.
Solar panels are free from harmful radiation. The electric field radiation from inverters is minimal, similar to that of a fluorescent light tube.
Not when designed and installed correctly. Our solar panel system designs exceed industry standards and local regulations, ensuring utmost protection with earthing, circuit breakers and surge protection for both panels and inverters. All our installers are licensed by the relevant authorities, ensuring professional and safe installations.
Yes. We install panels on a mounting structure to ensure no direct contact or damage. As a bonus, they can help cool down your roof.
Yes, most roofs can. To ensure safety, we consult with you and conduct a general inspection to check for issues like termite and water damage before installation.
If it needs repairs, it’s best to sort that out before the panels go up. If not, we’re good to go.
- Solar ATAP is Malaysia’s latest rooftop solar scheme that replaces NEM (which ended in June 2025).
- It allows you to install a solar panel system to generate Solar Electricity for your own use.
- Any unused Solar Electricity can be exported to the grid and used to offset the Energy charge on your TNB bill.
The main difference lies in how your exported Solar Electricity is credited:
- Solar ATAP: Offsets Energy charge only.
- NEM: Offsets Energy, Capacity, and Network charges.
| TNB Bill Offset | Solar ATAP | NEM |
| Energy | √ | √ |
| Capacity | x | √ |
| Network | x | √ |
| Savings | Per kWh RM0.27-RM0.37 | Per kWh RM0.44-RM0.54 |
Exported Solar Electricity can offset up to 100% of the Energy charge on your TNB bill. Any excess beyond that will be forfeited, so it’s important to size your system correctly and maximise your direct usage of Solar Electricity during the day.
The contract for Solar ATAP lasts for 10 years.
You can continue saving on your TNB bills by directly using the Solar Electricity generated by your system.
There is currently no quota allocation, but quotas may be introduced in the future. Installing early helps secure your access.
Yes, if you’re a registered TNB consumer in Peninsular Malaysia with your name on both the property title and TNB bill.
We will assist you with the application process and will require copies of your MyKad, last 3 TNB bills and proof of home ownership (e.g., Cukai Taksiran bill), in compliance with SEDA requirements.
| Home Electrical System | Installation Limit |
| 1-Phase | 5kWac |
| 3-Phase | 15kWac |
- Direct Solar Usage: Your home uses the Solar Electricity you generate directly, avoiding grid imports and all TNB charges.
- Daytime use (8am to 6pm): Solar powers your home directly as it’s generated.
- Energy Storage (optional): Excess solar is stored for night use before any grid import or export.
- Export to TNB: Excess Solar Electricity not immediately used or stored is sent to the grid to further lower your bill.
| Monthly TNB Bill | Estimated Direct Solar Usage (Without Energy Storage) |
| RM300 | 15-20% |
| RM500 | 20-25% |
| RM800 | 25-30% |
| RM1,000 | 30-35% |
| RM1,500 | 35-40% |
Your best savings come from using solar directly, while exporting adds a bit more.
| TNB Bill Charges | Direct Usage of Solar Electricity | Export of Solar Electricity |
| Energy | √ | √ |
| Network | √ | – |
| Capacity | √ | – |
| SST | √ | – |
| KWTBB | √ | – |
| Savings | RM0.487 – RM0.596/kWh | RM0.27 – RM0.37/kWh |
Batteries count as Direct Usage of Solar Electricity and saves on all TNB charges.
That depends on your household’s consumption, usage patterns, and the capacity of your solar panel system. Use our Solar Savings Calculator to get an estimate.
- Use more appliances in the daytime (e.g. EV charger, washing machines)
- Minimise shading on your panels (e.g. relocate satellite dishes, prune trees)
- Maintain your system properly to ensure optimal generation
Solar Electricity is generated during the day (8am–6pm, peaking around 11am–3pm). The more you use while your system is generating, the more you save – since you avoid grid imports and all bill charges.
ToU can lower your bill, but actual savings depend on how much of your weekday usage you can shift to off-peak hours (10pm–2pm).
Several factors can impact your savings:
- Roof design, tilt and orientation
- Shading from trees, buildings, or roof fixtures
- Excessive dust/pollution from surrounding areas
- Weather patterns
- Proper system maintenance
- Electricity consumption patterns
- Superior Performance: Panels and inverters that generate more power in any condition.
- Maximised Savings: More solar power means bigger savings on your TNB bills.
- Safe by Design: Certified components with built-in safety you can rely on.
- Emit Solar Support: Trusted brand support throughout your solar ownership.
It depends on your needs. Get a quick estimate with our Solar Savings Calculator.

We use Huawei SUN2000 string inverters [Product Specs] known for high-efficiency, reliable performance and advanced safety features. For most homes, string inverters are the best choice because they offer:
- Proven reliability – efficient, durable and well suited for Malaysian rooftops
- Easier maintenance – servicing is done on the ground, not on the roof
- Lower cost – one inverter powers the whole system
Microinverters are best for homes with unique roof layouts or significant shading risks. They may cost more because each panel needs its own unit, and maintenance usually require rooftop access (sometimes with skylift charges). We’ll be able to advice if it is a better option for your home after our home assessment.
Not necessarily.
- With Malaysia’s current tariff structure, the Solar ATAP scheme, and the high cost of batteries, adding a battery may not significantly increase savings for most homeowners.
- You can already save by using the Solar Electricity your system generates directly during the day.
- Under Solar ATAP, you’ll also be able to export any excess Solar Electricity for additional savings on your TNB bill.
- We’ve made the battery system an optional add-on for those who want greater energy independence. If you’d like to explore this, feel free to reach out to us for more information.
-
- Yes, you can. A battery lets you store excess solar electricity for later use, reducing how much you draw from the grid at night.
- Depending on your usage, a 7kWh battery (stores +/- 210kWh/month) can help you save an about RM100–RM120 more per month. However, under Solar ATAP, these additional savings may drop to around RM40 per month, as excess Solar Electricity can be exported for bill credits instead.
| Scenario | Energy Handling (+/- 210kWh/month) | Estimated Monthly Savings | Incremental Gain From Battery |
| Without Battery | Exported to TNB (Solar ATAP) | +/- RM57-RM78 | N/A |
| With 7kWh Battery | Stored and used at night | +/- RM100-RM120 | +/- RM40 |
- Batteries also add to your system cost, so it’s best to weigh the cost and potential savings to decide if it’s the right fit for your home.
- Please note that actual savings can vary depending on household usage patterns, weather conditions, and other day-to-day factors.
- Battery storage is an optional add-on because it of its high cost, and not every household benefits equally from it.
- By making it optional, you have the flexibility to decide whether the additional investment makes sense for your usage pattern and budget.
- This also allows you to install your solar system first and decide later if you’d like to add batteries once you better understand your Solar Electricity consumption patterns.
Yes, if you opt to include our Backup Power Box that can help keep essential appliances running during blackouts.

The Emit Digital Energy Hub is an optional add-on to your solar panel system. It is Malaysia’s first smart energy hub that connects your solar panel system, home distribution board (DB) and EV charger – making your solar setup truly EV-ready.
- Quick EV charger setup: No messy rewiring to your home’s DB.
- Solar-first charging: Charges your EV with Solar Electricity when available.
Our Energy Hub simplifies EV charger installation by eliminating the need for extensive installation work.
- It comes preinstalled with all necessary cables and connections to your home’s main Distribution Board (DB).
- It also includes an EV charger circuit breaker, residual current circuit breaker (RCCB), and an external isolator so that your EV charger can safely tap power directly from the Hub.
- With these pre-installations, most of the EV charger setup is already done.
We only use SIRIM-certified components that meet safety, performance and regulatory requirements.
No. The Energy Hub is covered by warranties, and unauthorised modifications could void them. Additionally, using subpar components could be safety hazards and/or cause power trips.
Yes, with both single-phase and three-phase Huawei EV chargers.
Three-phase chargers provide higher power capacity, allowing for faster charging than single-phase chargers. However, charging speed also depends on your EV’s onboard charger – if your car can only accept single-phase charging, using a three-phase charger won’t speed it up.
- With the Huawei inverter and connected meter working seamlessly with its EV charger, you get an integrated solution that includes dynamic load charging.
- Huawei is also a trusted and long-standing brand, known for its reliability, efficiency and smart features.
- Dynamic load charging allows your EV to charge at the highest available power without exceeding your home’s electrical limit.
- It continuously monitors your home’s power usage and adjusts the charger’s power output – automatically and in real-time – to prevent overloading.
- When home power usage is low (e.g., no one is home), more power is redirected to your EV for faster charging.
- When other appliances are in use, charging power is automatically reduced to avoid power trips.
Your installer may limit your charging capacity to avoid tripping your home’s power supply. This means that your EV may charge slower, even when more power is available.
It’s designed to work with the Type 2 charging standard, which is used by most EVs.
Yes, basic charging functions will work. Dynamic load charging may not be available, depending on the EV charger brand.
Only if you want us to install the necessary cables and connections from the external isolator to your EV charger or if you opt for our complete EV charging solution.

Yes, except:
- Asbestos: Handling can release dangerous fibres.
- Polycarbonate & rubber mat: Can’t support the weight of the panels securely.
- Slate: Brittle and prone to cracking.
Yes. For best results, your roof pitch should be less than 15°. This angle helps your panels capture the most sunlight and maximise your savings. Steeper roofs receive less direct sunlight, making them less efficient.
We’ll manage all necessary authority approvals, as needed. If you live in a gated community, you may also need a permit from your management office for the installation.
The number of solar panels we install will depend on your system size. We will propose a system size based on your household needs and site conditions – with the goal of maximising your savings – after your home assessment.
- We mount the solar panels on your roof using industry-standards methods.
- The inverter, PVDB/Emit Digital Energy Hub and battery (as applicable) are placed outside your home, as close as possible to your home’s electricity distribution board (DB).
- Proper wiring connections are made between all components.
We recommend placing them outside your home for several reasons:
- Heat dissipation: Open spaces keep them cooler for better performance and longer life.
- Accessibility: Easier maintenance without disrupting the household.
- Future-proof: Easily integrate an EV charger or additional batteries in the future.
Installation generally takes up to 8 hours, subject to site and weather conditions.
